Obituary of OLGA SMITH
Peacefully, after a brief illness, Olga passed away on October 28, 2015 at the Grace Hospital Hospice at the age of 82 years.
Left to cherish precious memories are her children Lori (Lloyd), Darryl (Angela) and grandsons Tyson and Alexander. Also left to mourn are, sister Mary and brother Harry and many nieces and nephews.
Olga was predeceased by her husband Gerry and infant daughter Patricia, siblings Bill, Nettie and Jenny and her parents Tom and Annie Gowryluk.
Olga was born on February 9, 1933 in Kirkness, Manitoba, the youngest of six children. She left the farm at the age of 16 to move to Winnipeg and had her first job at Eaton's mail order. In 1957 she married Gerry and the enjoyed 51 years of married life together. Many summers were spent at the family cottage at White Lake in the Whiteshell Provincial Park and they enjoyed their many trips to Hawaii.
Olga enjoyed walking, reading, gardening, doing her many jigsaw puzzles and bowling with the Eaton Senior League. She loved being with her family and took great joy in her grandsons.
The family would like to thank the Doctors and staff at St. Boniface Hospital for their care of Mom while she was there. They would like to also thank the Doctors, nurses and health care aids and volunteers at the Grace Hospital Hospice. Your kind, gentle and compassionate care of Mom in her final weeks was so appreciated. The family is grateful that Mom was able to spend her final weeks in such a beautiful peaceful place surrounded by caring people.
In accordance with Mom's wishes, there will be no funeral. Cremation has taken place. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, November 7 at 11:00 a.m. at Ashfield Cemetery located on Ashfield Road. Lunch to follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Olga's name to the Grace Hospital Hospice so that they may continue their excellent work of providing care to those in the final chapter of their lives.
