Obituary of OSTOJA SUVAJAC
OSTOJA SUVAJAC
OSTOJA “Ollie” Suvajac died peacefully at home on December 31, 2015 at the age of 75.
Ostoja is survived by wife Sofija, children, Mladen and Olivera “OV” [Gord] grandson Sasha;siblings, Obrad, Vidosava and Nada and his many nieces and nephews.
Ostoja was born on May 22, 1940 in Velika Ilova in Bosnia to Tenasia and Stanojka. After he left the army where he served as a paratrooper, he went on to graduate trade school as a bricklayer, started a successful business and married the cutest girl in town, Sofija in 1965. They started their family and moved to Winnipeg in 1970 to be with his brother Obrad. They began working together stuccoing houses. Ostoja found his niche and started Ollie’s Stucco, Plastering and Contracting, eventually bringing his son into the business until sending him through university. His children remember him as a family man who had no limit to what he would do for his family and encouraged them to pursue their goals in life.
Ostoja was talented in his trade, he had supervised the building of his own home, doing much of the work himself. He loved to travel; he loved long road trips or searching out warm beaches in Hawaii, Cuba, Florida, the Adriatic or Lake Winnipeg where we spent every possible Sunday at Grand Beach when the children were still at home.
