WALTER WASIUTA October 29, 1924 – January 6, 2016 On January 6th, 2016 our Father, Gigi, Brother, and good friend Walter passed away peacefully with his family by his side. Prayers were held for Walter on January 10th , 2016. His final wishes were to have his 3 sons and 3 grandsons carry him to his final resting place, so now that all of his family will be gathered together, we will be holding the funeral and Celebration of his life at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street at 10 a.m. on Saturday April 30th, 2016. Father Leo Couture officiating. Interment and reception will follow. Walter was born in Elma, Manitoba in 1924. He was the second youngest of a family of 2 sisters and 4 brothers. They had lost their mother at a very young age and were raised by their father George along with help from the community and neighbours. Walter attended the one room school house in Elma up to grade 9 and then helped his Dad on the farm in summer and went to work as a lumber jack in N.W. Ontario during winter. Each spring he returned to the farm with a new winter beard and some money in his pocket. He worked like this for many years waiting for his Annie to grow up. They got married in 1950 during the flood, and together they worked and lived on the farm with Grandpa George. In 1962 Walter and Anne moved to East Kildonan with Grandpa George, where they raised their 3 sons. During this time Walter worked as a welder at Dominion Bridge and as carpenter with Bird Construction and V.K. Mason Construction. He retired at age 65. Walter and Anne loved to take their boys camping and eventually bought a cottage at Moose Lake where he enjoyed hunting and fishing with friends and family. After retiring Walter and Anne travelled to Europe meeting relatives from their home country, and took several trips to Palm Springs with friends and also travelled to Alaska and Nova Scotia. Walter was very proud of his sons. He was very good at working with his hands whether it be working the soil or building a deck, he enjoyed working together with his boys and passing on many of his skills. He also loved his grandchildren and spent as much time with them as was possible. His whistle was heard at many hockey games, baseball games, soccer games and dance recitals if his grandkids were involved. Walter had a big heart and was willing to help anyone who needed a hand. He always had a good story about the olden days and loved to talk about his beloved Blue Jays. Until the end he could still offer a firm handshake and a big hug. Walter was predeceased by his beloved wife Anne in January, 2014. He always said she went first to make a home for him and he was to follow. He will be missed and remembered by his three sons and their wives, David and Patricia of Sylvan Lake, Alberta, Tom and Anna of Salmon Arm B.C. and Ken and Laurie of Winnipeg. Also missing him are his 3 grandsons Branden and wife Sheena of Yellowknife, NWT, Mark of Yellowknife, NWT and Nick and his wife Jessica of Winnipeg and his granddaughter Sara who is currently living in Sydney Australia. Also missing him are brothers Gus and Harry, and many relatives and good friends. We wish to thank all of the staff at Vista Park Lodge for their care and compassion for Walter in his time of need and for making the residence his home for the past two years. And to the staff at Fred Douglas Heritage House for their wonderful care of Mom and Dad when they were living there. Memorial donations to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba would be appreciated, as expressions of sympathy.
