1923-2015
Peacefully, on Tuesday, December 29, 2015 at Kildonan Personal Care Centre, Eleanor Townsend passed away at the age of 92 years.
Eleanor was predeceased by her parents Stanley and Elizabeth Eley, her beloved husband Hugh, her sister C. Jessie Tumber, brother-in-law Dennis Tumber, sister Dorothy Moss, brother-in-law Raymond Moss, great nephew James Tumber, nephew Barry Moss and nephew Dennis Townsend.
Eleanor is survived by her daughter Sharon Tschikota (George), son Stanley Townsend (Joyce Latrace-Lundquist), sister-in-law Margaret (Peggy) Tumber in New Zealand, grandchildren Andrea Edmunds (Scott), Brian Townsend (Amy), Lisa Guerette (Geoff) and great-grandchildren Ethan, Jaden, Kayla and Aidenn. She will also be missed by Sharron Townsend, mother of Brian and Lisa, niece Geraldine Martynuk (Jake), niece Faye Townsend, niece-in-law Suzanne Moss,nephews Michael Tumber (Michele), Cameron Tumber (Marilyn), and George Moss (Lois), and their families, many cousins in England, and many friends and acquaintances in Sinawik Bay.
Eleanor was born in Virden, Manitoba in 1923 where she attended Virden Collegiate. After working for three years, she met and married Hugh, who was employed at the Elementary Training and Flying School in 1941. They moved to Winnipeg in 1947. Eleanor cared for her family at home until 1959 when she started working for Zellers downtown store as a salesperson and later Personnel and Credit Manager. After an early retirement in 1978, Eleanor served as President of the Sinawik Bay Social Club for several years. Eleanor and Hugh travelled extensively in Canada, the U.S., England, Scotland, Ireland and New Zealand. These were among the happiest times of her life. In later years, Eleanor's greatest joy was her grandchildren, and especially, her great-grandchildren.
Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, February 11 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Andrew’s Anglican Church, 2700 Portage Ave. Interment to follow in Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Eleanor's memory to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Avenue, R3E 0V9, or to a charity of your choice.
