DOROTHY LANG

Obituary of DOROTHY LANG

DOROTHY LANG (nee KLINGER) On Monday, January 25, 2016, holding the hand of her one true love and surrounded by family, Mom passed at home with peace and grace. She is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Donald; children and grandchildren: Colleen Irwin (Ian and Reid), Ron and Mary Lang (Daniel and Deanna), Sandra and Bill Donald (Emma and William), Leslie and Tony Fiorino (Tony Jr.); great-grandchildren Jayden, Daxen and Eli Schultz. She is also survived by her sisters Mary Blei and Theresa (Erhard) Meier, sister-in-law Anne Klinger; brothers and sisters-in-law Len (Audrey) Lang, Jeanette Nagy, Joan Atkins, Jean Lang, Susan (Richard) Peacock, and numerous nieces and nephews whom she loved so much. Mom was predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Rosalia Klinger; in-laws Paul and Ann Lang, brother John Klinger, and brothers-in-law Joseph Blei, Clifford Lang (Florence), Steve Nagy and Lloyd Atkins. Mom was born on February 6, 1937 to Joseph and Rose Klinger. Her childhood was a rich tapestry of her Austrian heritage and love of her North End neighbourhood. She attended St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church and school, where she formed many of her lifelong friendships and met the love of her life. As a young woman, Mom enjoyed a career at Continental Grain which she happily gave up when she married her true love, Don, and settled down to raised a family. Mom and Dad were married on September 19, 1959 at St. Joseph's. Together, they devoted countless charitable hours to CYO, CFM and the Bosco Centre. Mom was a lifelong member of the CWL and a founding member of the Majestic Alps Pavilion with Folklorama. An amazing mother with endless love and patience for her family, she embodied the ideal of what a parent should be. Mom touched everyone she encountered with her smile and kind words. She was a woman of incredible strength and determination. Over the years, both Mom and Dad faced illness, each time choosing to focus on their reunions rather than the separations. The joy of Dad's recovery and return this past month was bittersweet as we learned that Mom's time with us was limited. Hand in hand, they enjoyed one last week together, thanking each other for a wonderful life. So many amazing people touched Mom along her journey. We would like to thank Dr. Sean Armstrong and the dedicated team at Seven Oaks Dialysis Unit who lavished Mom with kindness and compassion and helped maintain her dignity. Special thanks to nurses Wendy and Jackie who always put a smile on Mom's face. To the caring staff and wonderful friends at River Ridge for their support during this difficult time, and for helping Mom and Dad feel welcome in their new home. To the lovely ladies of Friendly Caregiver who were there to ease Mom when family needed to be with Dad, and finally to the wonderful Palliative Care team who ensured that Mom's journey would be gentle and peaceful. Services will be held Saturday, January 30 at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, corner of Mountain Avenue and Andrews Street. Rosary will be prayed at 10:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Dialysis Program via Seven Oaks General Hospital Foundation or to the Catholic Missions foster child program.
