Obituary of STANLEY ALEXANDER DIDKOWSKI

STANLEY ALEXANDER DIDKOWSKI Husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather who was affectionately known as papa, Stan passed away January 30, 2016 after a short and courageous battle with lung cancer, peacefully with family by his side. Stubborn in his usual way, he resisted valiantly through to the end. In dad’s early education career, he taught at J. B. Mitchell and later moved to the Seven Oaks School Division where he taught high school math and chemistry at Garden City Collegiate. Dad was very much involved with curriculum development where the exam questions would be made up and he also graded exams as well. He was selected to implement the Introduction to Physical Science program after being sent to the States for one summer to learn the system. Dad would later begin a very special and new chapter in his life and after becoming an administrator. He was vice-principal at Jefferson and Edmund Partridge Junior High Schools and would later assume a principal position between the two schools. Dad finished out his career at R.F. Morrison Elementary School as principal for the Ukrainian English program. He would often remark later after his retirement his biggest regret was not moving there earlier. He said those were his happiest and most fond memories. Dad made many friendships, personally and professionally, during his tenure in the school division. Dad loved to travel. He was fortunate to visit and see many countries and experience the cultures and lives of the people of those countries. He went on cruises to the Mediterranean, Caribbean, South America and Alaska. The year prior to his passing, he was able to enjoy a European river cruise. Dad especially loved his cottage. It was there he would tend to his gardens and flower beds. Dad especially loved growing his tomatoes. He would make tomato juice, tomato sauce as well as many other preserves from his gardens. Dad was an extremely talented handyman. He was often asked by tenants at the condo to fix or build them some special project they had in mind. Dad was extremely generous with his time and help. He would assist numerous friends and family members with building decks, fences, garages, basements or whatever project they were planning. Dad’s favorite sports were bowling, curling and golf. He bowled in several different 5 pin leagues. He was a member at the Pine Ridge Golf and Country Club in his early golfing years and later on had a membership at The Links in Gimli. Dad you are sorely missed. We cherish your memory, your love, your guidance and support you have given our family over the years. Interment will take place Monday, May 9, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at Glen Eden Memorial Gardens, 4477 Main Street followed by a celebration of dad’s life at 11:00 a.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society in memory of Dad.
