Obituary of JEANNOT FILLION
JEANNOT (JOHN) FILLION
Peacefully at Seven Oaks Hospital in Winnipeg, Manitoba on March 3, 2016, Jeannot (John) Fillion, passed away at the age of 80.
Jeannot was born in Jonquière, Quebec to the late Gerard Fillion and Aline Rathé on January 25, 1936. He briefly joined the army on March 2, 1954 at the age of 18 until his Honourable discharge on April 5, 1960.
He married his wife, the late Ida (Ladouceur) Fillion on November 14, 1959 at Saint George Church at Fort Osborne Barracks in Winnipeg and had three children. The family briefly moved to Montreal, Quebec where he was surrounded by his loving family. In 1970, he moved his family to Winnipeg, purchased a house and made everyone feel welcomed to his home.
For a living, Jeannot drove large semi trucks with Kleysen Trucking Co. and later on with Imperial Roadways for a number of years until he became an owner/operator. He loved to drive and travel in the United States and Canada until his retirement in 1990's. However, before his retirement, he always managed to take his family out camping, fishing or have a fun day at the beach.
Jeannot is known for his love of country music especially Johnny Cash or Conway Twitty. After the passing of his loving wife, Ida, he would venture out and enjoy the company of his buddies at Tim Horton's for that delicious cup of coffee and when he was not at the coffee shop, he would be out celebrating at his grandchildren's birthday parties and indulge in some very delicious barbecue foods. Jeannot always loved his food and during these events, he would always tell us a story or two. He was the story teller of the family and loved to make people laugh. Sometimes we never knew if his stories were real or not but we enjoyed them anyways.
Jeannot will be greatly missed by his three children, Marie-Anne (Ivan), Gerard, and Jean-Claude (Kathy). He will also be sadly missed by his precious five grandchildren, Renee, Dallas, Kayla, Britne and Cody and his four young great-grandchildren, Tangela, Neo, Justice and Alexander.
Rest in peace dad, we will truly miss you. We all know that you are with our mother, Ida and that you are now very happy. We love you always.
Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 12 at 1:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street.
