Obituary of PATRICK FRANK BOCHEN

PATRICK FRANK BOCHEN March 17, 1950 – April 12, 2016 It is with great sadness and sorrow that we announce the passing of Pat Bochen on April 12, 2016. Pat passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family. Left to cherish his memory are his wife Mary, daughters Marissa (Jon), Jennifer (Jacek) and Kerri-Ann, grandchildren Aleksa, Samuel and Maksym. Pat is also survived by his sisters Irene (Norman) and Cheryl (Owen) and nephews Kyle, Ryan and Zach. He was predeceased by his parents and his brother Brian. Born in Winnipeg on St. Patrick’s Day he spent his childhood in the “Point”, attending Norquay, Aberdeen, St. John’s High School, and Red River College. He worked for the City of Winnipeg for 38 years, retiring in 2008. Married in 1977, Pat was blessed with three girls and later, 3 grandchildren, who meant the world to him and were his greatest joy and comfort in life. Many summers were spent at the lake, fishing and hiking. He encouraged his daughters to become competitive swimmers and athletes for life, supporting them through years of morning and evening practices with the Manta Swim Club. Pat spent countless hours volunteering at the pool and was president of Manta from 1998 to 2000. He officiated with Swim Manitoba as a starter and referee and volunteered with Operation Red Nose for many years. In retirement, Pat took up golfing and curling. He was a member of the West Kildonan Golf and Curling Club. Pat loved all sports, especially NFL football, and weekends were frequently spent with his best friend Jim watching sports on television. Cooking and barbequing for his family was a passion of his. He was always ready to prepare a feast the moment anyone walked in the door. We will always remember how Gigi’s eyes lit up in the presence of his grandchildren. He loved them dearly and they loved him back with hugs, kisses and playtime. The family is grateful for the kindness and care of the Palliative Care team who assisted Pat in staying home as he wished. A special thank you to Dr. B. D. Martin, Sandy and Oliver. Divine Liturgy will be held at 10:00 am on Monday, April 18, 2016 at Holy Eucharist Ukrainian Catholic Parish (505 Watt St.) with Father Michael Kwiatkowski. Reception to follow. Donations may be made to The Children’s Hospital Foundation of Manitoba. Vichnaya Pam’yat Always in our hearts
