Obituary of CAROLE ANGELA NIERODA
CAROLE ANGELA NIERODA
(nee Gurniak)
It is with heavy hearts we announce the peaceful passing of our Mom, Carole Angela Nieroda, on Tuesday, May 10, 2016 at Seven Oaks Hospital at the age of 93.
Born in Winnipeg on February 19, 1923 to Magdalena and Victor Gurniak. She met the love of her life, Aloysius at Holy Ghost Church. They married shortly after on October 27, 1951 and were married for 51 years before Aloysius’ passing in 2003.
Together they started their lives together at their home on Arlington Street before moving to their new home on Hazel Dell in East Kildonan where she was a homemaker raising their two children, Edward and Andrea.
Carole was an outstanding seamstress, creating beautiful clothes and wedding dresses. She also worked part-time at the Hudson Bay Store. She was a devoted parishioner to both Holy Ghost and St. Alphonsus and sang in the choir at both. She was always caring for others. She made numerous baby afghans which she donated to the Children’s Hospital to become a member of the Peter Pan Club.
Her passion and dedication was her family. Social gatherings with relatives and friends was a regular occurrence and always highlighted with her famous cheesecake or chocolate log desert. When she moved into St. Joseph’s Nursing Home, she was so happy to be reunited with her sister-in-law, Helen Sorobey. She was so proud of her children and grandchildren, making sure everyone at St. Joseph’s knew who they were every time they visited.
She will be lovingly remembered by her son, Edward and his wife Cathy and their children, Derek and Stephanie, and her daughter Andrea and Kirk. She is predeceased by her husband Aloysius; brother Joe Gurniak; and son Baby Nieroda.
The family wants to extend their sincere thanks to the staff at St. Joseph’s Nursing Home and Seven Oaks Hospital.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, May 14, 2016 at 11:30 a.m. at St. Alphonsus Church, Munroe Avenue and Brazier Street. Interment in Holy Ghost Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Carole’s memory may be made to St. Alphonsus Parish or to St. Joseph’s Nursing Home.
