Obituary of PAUL POMARENSKI
PAUL POMARENSKI
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Paul Pomarenski. Paul died peacefully at Cornish 2, Misericordia Health Centre on May 14, 2016, at the age of 97.
Paul was born to Metro and Teeny Pomarenski on March 1, 1919 in Fraserwood, Manitoba. Paul lived on the farm with his 6 brothers and sisters until he was 18. He then moved to Levack, Ontario where he worked in the nickel and gold mines. It was there that he met his wife, Sophie Einoff, whom he married in 1943. Together, they raised 2 children: Carolle (born 1946) and David (born 1948).
Paul and Sophie moved to Winnipeg in 1947, where they shared their home for over 50 years. Paul worked in the grocery business with his brothers and sister, starting on William Avenue, and successfully expanded the business to 3 stores in the 1950’s. Afterwards, Paul continued his career as a butcher and managed stores for IGA until he retired in 1984. In his retirement, Paul followed his passion for gardening, golf, and spending time with his children and grandchildren. His home on Lansdowne was always open for company, family dinners and a friendly game of pool (not to mention a shot of rye). After Sophie passed away, Paul spent his last six years at Cathedral Manor Retirement Home, best loved for the perpetual twinkle in his eye.
Paul will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He was pre-deceased by his wife Sophie and daughter Carolle. He is survived by his son, David, grandchildren Darren (Chelsea), Paige (John), Amanda (David), Kurt, and Mark (Jessica) and great grandchildren Isme and Brody.
The family would like to thank the staff at Cathedral Manor, the homecare workers that attended to Paul’s needs, and the entire staff of Cornish 2, Misericordia for all that they did to make the end of Paul’s journey as comfortable as it was.
In lieu of flowers please make a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society in memory of Paul Pomarenski.
A celebration of Paul’s life will be held at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. on Friday, May 20 at 7:00 pm.
