Obituary of ANTONIETTA PERILLO

ANTONIETTA PERILLO It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our mother, nonna and nonna nonna Antonietta Perillo ( nee Nardiello) on June 9th. She was predeceased by her husband Giuseppe, her parents Vito and Angelina Nardiello and brothers Giuseppe and Antonio. Left to cherish her memory are her children; Rosa (Reg Rutherford), Angie( Frank Capasso), Franca (Bill Johnson), son Tony (Kim) and grandchildren Tony ( Alicia), Maria(Colin), Sabrina (Dean), Joel, Kayla, Matteo, Brysen and Tara and great grandchildren Giulia, Easton, Mercer and Campbell and extended family and numerous friends. Thanks to the Doctors and nurses at the Grace Hospital and the excellent staff at West Park Manor Personal Care Home for the care and comfort provided to our mother. Viewing will be June 14th at 10 am at Holy Rosary Church, 510 River Avenue, followed by mass at 11 am. Entombment will be at the Chapel of Eternal Memories Mausoleum on Waverly. Mom was born near Muro, Lucano, Italy in 1925 and raised traditionally on a small farm along with her brothers Giuseppe and Antonio Nardiello. In 1955 Mom left Italy with her two young daughters (Rosa and Angie) to follow her husband and our father Giuseppe Perillo, to Winnipeg, the land of opportunity and frightful winters, who had immigrated the year before. Our ship landed in Halifax and we took the train west to Winnipeg along with many other Italians seeking a new life. Soon after we arrived, Dad bought a big house and while we settled in, Dad started to sponsor his brothers and sisters and other relatives to come to Canada to share in the new opportunity. Sponsoring usually meant our relatives moved in with us until they could get their own place. Although Mom had no formal education, she learned what she need to know to raise her kids and help her relatives adjust to life in Canada while all living in the same house in Winnipeg. Not being busy enough with a house full of family, she still found time to have Franca and son Tony. She made sure we all graduated from high school or else! Mom was an excellent homemaker, knitter and gardener all her life, carrying on the traditional role of Italian women at the time. All her work and efforts were to nurture the Family and Family was always first and foremost to mom. Her greatest joy was babysitting her grandchildren and visits by her great grandchildren and relatives and friends. There were always biscotti’s and/or pasta available on short notice. We will all miss her dearly. Thanks to the Grace Hospital Emergency Unit and West Park Manor Personal Care Home for the excellent care they provided Mom. Viewing will be Tuesday, June 14 at 10 am at Holy Rosary Church, 510 River Avenue, followed by Mass at 11 am. Entombment will be at the Chapel of Eternal Memories Mausoleum on Waverley. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Liver Foundation of Manitoba, 375 York Ave, Winnipeg, MB, R3C 3J3 or West Park Manor, 3199 Grant Ave, Winnipeg, MB R3R 1X2
