Obituary of CELINE SKYHAR

Celine Skyhar (Desautels) January 4, 1921 – June 26, 2016 Celine was born in St. Anne, MB and predeceased by her parents Denis and Maria Desautels, her loving husband Alex of 47 years, son Murray, brothers Amedee and Pete, sisters Yvonne and Aurora, and grandson Michael. She is survived by her sister Esther and brother John. She will be lovingly remembered by her surviving children Leona and Geraldine (Andy); grandchildren Patty Anne (Daryl), Matthew, Michelle, Mark and Bryan (Nini) and six great grandchildren. During Mom’s later years her great granddaughters Katie and Sara became the joy of her life. Mom will always be remembered for her hard work ethic and fantastic home cooking. Sunday dinners at our home were enjoyed by everyone including many relatives. No one could stop with just one helping. Mom also loved to sew and knit. She sewed most of our clothes and knit dozens of baby outfits and afghans to give away. You would never see her sitting idly just watching TV. Mom cleaned houses and worked in a sewing factory. In those days, the more pieces you sewed the more money you took home and she took pride in being the best and fastest. She never just cleaned a house, she became very close to these families and would bath, dress and cook for some. Mom learned to swim after the age of 50. She was petrified of water but due to health issues she took her doctor's advice and joined the YMCA. She overcame her fears and attained her lifesaving certificate and bronze cross. She taught all her grandchildren to swim and spent every day volunteering at the Y for the next 20 years. Mom never let her age be a factor or stop her from achieving her desires. She learned to drive late in life after she purchased a used car from one of the people she cleaned house for and passed both written and driving tests on her first try! Dad never drove so every morning she would drive him to work and pick him up at night. Mom you were a gentle soul that will be greatly missed but you have taught us all how to live our lives to the fullest. It is your turn to rest and join your beloved husband and son. We will keep you in our hearts forever. The family would like to thank Middlechurch Home staff for their caring and support for the past 3 years. In lieu of flowers you can donate to Middlechurch Home of Wpg. Inc, 280 Balderstone Rd. West St. Paul, MB R4A 5A2. A private family funeral has been held at Cropo Funeral Chapel with interment at Glen Eden Cemetery.
