Obituary of GABRIEL MERASTY
GABRIEL MERASTY
Gabriel (Gabe) Merasty (Grey Cloud Man), aged 64, passed away peacefully at home on July 16, 2016. He was born in Brochet, Manitoba on March 23, 1952 and had seven sons; Blair (mother Elaine Carriere), Joseph, Gabriel (Jr.), Isaac, Kyle, Virgil and Rocky. During the 28 years that Gabe and Rosemary (Sanderson) were together they raised their six sons.
Gabe loved all his grandchildren (Tynan, Payton, Darci, Shane, Bradley, Corey, David, Jared and baby Ryan) and cherished the time he was able to spend with them.
Gabe loved all of his sons and was very proud of them. He always cared about their well-being and taught them many teachings in life. By trade he was sheet metal worker and traveled across Manitoba. Due to a back injury though he decided to pursue other endeavors. By teaching and showing his sons the importance of education he completed his Grade 12 diploma; graduated from Business Administration - majoring in Marketing and shortly after completed Human Resource Management. Lastly, he received a diploma as an Addictions and Community Service Worker from CDI College. He showed his sons the value of helping others by volunteering his time at Siloam Mission, Winnipeg Harvest and Ma Mawi Wi Chi Itata Centre. He strongly believed in sacred teachings and took part in ceremonies.
In Gabe's younger years he obtained his Black Belt in Taekwondo and encouraged his sons in participating in sports. He had many hobbies, such as playing cribbage and watching football and hockey. He was an avid reader and enjoyed reading his scriptures and various books that were uplifting and inspiring. But out of all of these, Gabe enjoyed spending quality time with his sons.
He was predeceased by his parents Joseph and Marie-Adele Merasty and his siblings Rose, Dorothy, Simon and Angus.
The family would like to thank all those who have helped during this difficult time and thank Cropo Funeral Chapel.
A celebration of Gabe's life will be held on Monday, July 25, 2016 at 11:00 a.m., with visitation at 10:00 a.m., at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street. Reception to follow. Burial will take place at Brookside Cemetery, 3001 Notre Dame Avenue.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Siloam Mission in his memory.
