Obituary of KAY TOMCHUK

KAY TOMCHUK NEE Kondryshyn On Saturday August 13th, 2016 our beloved mother and grandmother Kay Tomchuk passed away after a brief illness at Seven Oaks Hospital at the age of 86. She was predeceased by her parents George and Mary Kondryshyn, brother George, husband of 29 years Paul Tomchuk, and daughter Marlene Block. She is survived by her daughter Linda and son-in-law Ted Magnusson, daughter Cheryl, son-in-law Wayne Block, her one and only granddaughter Kellsie, cousin Walter (Marge), god-daughter Lynn, and dear friend Sylvia. Kay was born in Winnipeg on May 12th, 1930 and attended Lord Nelson and Isaac Newton schools. She graduated and worked as a bookkeeper at the T. Eaton Company. Kay married Paul in 1954 and together they had 3 daughters, Linda, Marlene and Cheryl. It was a tragedy for her to witness the loss of her middle daughter to cancer in 1998. Kay loved being a wife and mother to her family and treasured the time she spent as a grandmother taking care of Kellsie. Kay and Paul had many wonderful memories at the blue and yellow cottage in Lac Du Bonnet that they shared with Steve and Betty Harasym and family. She had many friends and enjoyed card parties, bowling and travelling. Her travels included Hawaii, Las Vegas, Florida, Vancouver and Branson, Missouri. She was a proficient Scrabble player, excellent cook and baker, loved knitting, crocheting, and gardening. The last four years of her life were spent at St. Joseph’s Residence where she shared some happy times with her favorite health care aides. Kay will be remembered as a kind and generous person with a great sense of humor. She always kept current on political and social issues and was interested in the lives of all of those around her. She was a great conversationalist and loved the company of family and friends. Our family is grateful for the kindness, compassion and love given to us by the people who held us up during this challenging time. Cremation has taken place and in keeping with Kay’s wishes, no funeral services will be held. In lieu of flowers, charitable donations can be made to WinnServ Inc. located at 101-960 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3G 0R4.
