ROY MARTIN LUTZ

Obituary of ROY MARTIN LUTZ

ROY MARTIN LUTZ Sadly we announce the passing of our Big Brother Roy Martin Lutz on August 29, 2016. Roy was born on October 14, 1949 to parents Hendrikje (Hennie) Albers & Willard (Bill) Lutz. He was the second born son in a family of four boys. To say it simply Roy walked to his own beat. He left home at a young age to explore the world. He travelled to Europe to visit his Ancestral roots, travelled to Africa and visited Timbuktu to just to say he was there. Roy joined the Horse Racing Industry in Eastern Canada as a groom. Bill followed Roy into the Industry and the two of them even owned a Thoroughbred Race Horse for a time. Following the horses he travelled down the Eastern Seaboard for many years and ended up in Aiken, S.C. From there he went to Edisto Island, S.C. On the Island Roy became involved with the shrimp trawlers. He loved the free spiritedness of this lifestyle. Nothing was finer that catching a boat load of crabs and having a feast afterwards. Roy made many friends during these years all of which he still kept in touch with on a regular basis. He was kind of the glue that held everyone together. After many years, Roy decided to return to his home town of Winnipeg and set down roots. He took a Hotel Management Course and became quite an accomplished cook. It was always a good night when Roy invited us for supper. When the Hotel Management did not work out, he got into Security work and eventually worked his way into the Crystal Casino doing surveillance work. Roy purchased a little house on Alfred Avenue in the North End which he decorated it in his own special way. He was very proud of his 100 year old house. Now having a house he planned yearly "soirées" where every person he knew. He didn't own a car but rode a bike to work and everywhere else. Building kites later became a passion for him. If you said you were interested in one, you would have it the next day. Roy's illnesses were very difficult for him. He struggled with dealing with the symptoms but one thing he never did was give up. He lived life and he lived it right until the end. Roy is survived by his brothers Marinus, Bill (Jo-Ann) and David (Rose), step nieces and nephews, many cousins in The Netherlands and so many friends throughout Canada and The United States. All his friends made a special effort to come and see Roy in his time of need. Those who were unable to come to Canada kept in touch by phone with him which he valued just as much. All his neighbours who pitched in. He touched so many lives and we are all richer for that. Special thanks to his best friend and birthday twin Ron Wachniak and wife Debbie who were very supportive of Roy and helped him with so many of his errands. Life was difficult for Roy as he began to lose his physical abilities but he stayed strong in heart and of mind with an awful lot of stubbornness. The world is a less colourful place without Roy. Happy Trails to you brother! A meet and greet gathering is planned at Cropo Funeral Chapel, Main & Inkster from 2 to 4 on Thursday, September 8th, 2016.
