It's taken me a few years after hearing about Al passing to get the strength to write anything. Al Was a good friend in New Delhi many years ago and someone I admired for his wise council and wonderful family values. His generosity of spirit to friends and his obvious love of and caring for his children will always be a keystone of how one should be. I read Amanda's very touching tribute to her dad and it touched me. It's been many years since I last met with the Lukies but both Al and his wife and all of his family remain in my heart as people I know and care for immensely. God bless you, Al. If god knows who are the good people you are sure to close by his side. My love you and best wishes to you and your family,
Paul Fennelly

Dad
I wish we had more time. I think of you everyday. It's been harder than I thought it would be. Not sure if I should be sad or happy you have moved on. It's a very confusing roller coaster of emotions for me, and you know how I am about my emotions....not very good with them. I miss you terribly. I just want you to know I am SO thankful you chose me as your daughter, it was my our honor to have you as my father. Thank you dad. Please don't forget to send a little sign here and there to let me know you are around.
I live you forever
Amanda

Al was my mate and my life has been so much better for having such a close relationship with he and the girls.
Your giggle, big fella, is always present in my mind.
Your commitment to family and friends will continue with you watching over us.

Natalya Colucci (Lukie) & family,
We would like to extend our deepest sympathies on the passing of your father, Alexander Lukie.
I (Steve) was lucky enough to have met Al on a number of occasions, and what always stood out was his love for his daughters.
In knowing what he dedicated his professional career to as a Canadian Ambassador around the world, I found it to be quiet amazing that the day of his passing was International Day of Peace.
In lieu of flowers, we have donated $100 to the Parkinson Society of Canada, and $100 to Holy Family Home in Winnipeg - both in his honour and memory.
I'm sorry we won't be there to support you in person later this week, but be sure we'll be thinking of you and your family.
We are here for you - now and always.
All our love,
Abigail, Breanne & Steve Gimza

God bless you Uncle Al, you can now be your true self again. I know you are beside Babka and Gido watching over all of us. We will all miss your large personality but will treasure all the memories. Many hugs and prayers to Angela and all the girls - what a wonderful legacy he has left behind :) We are thinking of all the Lukie clan this weekend and you are all in our hearts. We love you all, Vonnie and Tim

On Wednesday night, as Summer collapsed into Fall, you slipped away. You were always larger than life – with a soul and presence unlike any other. With a booming voice, a mischievous twinkle in your eye and a penchant for telling jokes, everyone knew when you were near.
You lived hard and loved big and had an iron-willed determination, that as your daughter, was both frustrating and awe-inspiring. But it allowed you to bear a terrible illness with grace and humour and for that we are grateful.
You were compassionate and generous. And your impact will be felt for generations to come because of the legacy of hope and opportunity you created for some of the world’s most disadvantaged people.
You’ll make quite the angel.
Godspeed, Dad. Though your farewell was early, our parting is not forever. Enjoy the stars. And rest now...we've got it covered down here.

I worked with Brian at Pan Am Clinic and got to work a bit with AL from time to time overseas and in Ottawa while I worked for medical services in Immigration. The descriptions given him were right on. I could hear him speaking as I read about him being the life of the party. My condolences to the family. Al was a terrific guy!

......"Friendly Giant" is no more ? No matter who you are anywhere, if you have crossed road with Al at work, on the way to anywhere, these sad news will pinch you and leave you bruised. He was a power-house of a human being at work and definitely for his loving family. Angela and his daughters were his reasons for being. Al's cares are now all ended among the livings but hovers with love in the celestial.
Please accept my deepest condolences

Al was truly larger than life. It was hard to spend a minute in Al’s company and not be impressed by his character, his humour and his general goodness. I had the pleasure of working with Al in New York as a brand new immigration officer and, to this day, he is a source of inspiration to me and so many others. My most sincere condolences to the family.

I am saddened and surprised at the news of Al's death... I had the pleasure of working with him at CIC over various times, and certainly always appreciated his deep knowledge of the immigration business and his wish to ensure that operational issues were dealt with, and front line folk had to have their voices heard. I had not heard of the decine of his health, having last seen him using one of Loblaws special chairs (in Ottawa) to do the grocery shopping, which seemed a very strange place to catch up with Al Lukie! He was graceful and uncomplaining at this stage of his illness.
My sincere condolences to Al's family. He will be dearly missed.

Al was a wonderful inspiration for a young FS officer. He always had a twinkle in his eye and lit up a room. He was an excellent manager and showed that you could be a civil servant and still retain charm and a sense of humour. The Citizenship and Immigration Foreign Service community will seem so empty without his presence.

On behalf of myself and the entire Moroz family, we would certainly like to express our sincere condolences to your family. I met Al only once at Ron and Marlene's house, but strangely there seemed to be an immediate connection, probably because he reminded me so much of my own late husband who fought a similar battle. To me, Al obviously displayed courage and resolve and it was clear that he must have had a very big personality as even though he was struggling with his speech, he was still cracking jokes and telling stories of his life overseas. I am very sorry for your loss - Darlene Moroz
