JAMES DYLAN COOK

Obituary of JAMES DYLAN COOK

JAMES DYLAN COOK May 22, 1981- October 30, 2016 On October 30, 2016, James Dylan Cook died suddenly at his home in Winnipeg. Left to mourn are his beloved wife Mika and their adored children; daughter Aki Juniper and son Jun Vincent as well as parents Ann Hoogstraten and Jim Cook. Family and friends who loved Dylan his all too short life, are bereft. Dylan went to school in Winnipeg Beach and Gimli, then graduated from the University of Winnipeg with a degree in Conflict Resolution. A student of martial arts from the time he was six, Dylan earned a black belt in karate when he was fifteen years old. He lived those core teachings of courage, honour, duty and respect every day of his life. Dylan had a brilliant mind, and he never stopped learning. His interests ranged from philosophy and poetry to science and literature. He was an inspired teacher, a loyal friend and valued colleague. Most of all, he was a loving husband and father. A keen observer of world affairs, Dylan traveled widely, although he found his greatest peace and satisfaction with his family, at home in Winnipeg and at Stephenson Point. Most recently Dylan spent countless hours creating unique wooden treasures for Mika, Aki and Jun that will remain as precious mementos of his love and skill. Dylan and Mika's journey began more than ten years ago in Arizona. Dylan, who loved working with his hands, introduced himself to Mika in a characteristically creative and charming way - by presenting her with a beautifully intricate origami stained glass figurine. Their bond deepened and strengthened through a shared passion for travel and adventure that took them all over the world. Dylan and Mika made a wonderful team, playing ultimate frisbee together, working on art projects and cooking up fine cuisine. But their greatest joy was in being loving parents to their precious children Aki and Jun. His family was truly the light of Dylan's life. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to help the family through this difficult time. Please speak with a family member, or access the Dylan Cook Memorial GoFundMe page that has been set up in support of Mika and the children. A memorial service for Dylan will be held in the summer at Stephenson Point.
