Obituary of VALENTINA FILIPOWICZ

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our very much loved Aunty “Mom”, Valentina Filipowicz, at the age of 91. She was predeceased by her husband Lonek, her mother Helena “Babcia”, her father Awksenty, and brothers Walter and Eugene. Born in Pinsk, Poland, Valentina immigrated to Canada in 1951. She spent several years working as a seamstress in Ontario. After marrying Uncle Lonek, they settled in Winnipeg purchasing their home in 1960. They opened their home and hearts to UncIe Lonek's sister Aunty Maria, and soon after Valentina’s mother came to live with them as well. Valentina was a wonderful wife and a very devoted and loving daughter. In 1968 Valentina chose to be a “Mom”, ‘adopting’ three young children whom she raised and loved as her own. Valentina will be lovingly remembered by her three children, Steve, Wanda and Regina, and her son-in-law Arnie whom she adored. She was a genuine and compassionate person, with a very generous spirit, accepting everyone she met. She had a wonderful sassy spark when the situation called for it. Mom loved to be out in the warm sunshine, tending her vegetable and flower gardens and preserving fruits and vegetables. She was an adventurous cook trying and perfecting new recipes, and her traditional Polish cuisine was exceptionally delicious. During her energetic years, she thoroughly enjoyed hosting Easter and Christmas celebrations with family and friends gathered around a huge dining table. Mom was especially passionate about animals and had an understanding knack for nurturing and providing comfort to woodland creatures. Mom gave selflessly, always putting others first. She has left us with cherished memories. A Funeral Service will be held at Cropo Funeral Chapel,1442 Main St. on Saturday, January 21 at 10:00 a.m. with interment to follow at Holy Ghost Cemetery. Aunty, Mom....you will forever be in our hearts.
