Obituary of JANICE JOY SANDISON

JANICE SANDISON It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that we announce the sudden passing of Janice Sandison on March 18th, 2017. Janice was 58 years old and was a beloved mother to her daughter, Jillian (Mike), and son Jamie (Sydney) who were, in her own words, the best thing(s) that ever happened to her. Janice was a loving daughter to Stan, sister to Connie (Rick), Auntie to Carley (Kris), Jessica and great aunt to Carter. Janice is also survived by her cousins, Virginia and Mathew Blondin, Auntie Lou, the family dog, Ellie and the father of her children, Jim Sandison. Janice is predeceased by her mother, Marjorie and her brother John Sass. Janice was born in Winnipeg and lived in Dauphin, Montreal and then returned to Winnipeg. Throughout her life Janice celebrated many achievements, friendships and touched many lives along the way. Janice attended Red River College which paved the way for a 34 year career with Molson Coors. Her passion for Molson and the brand led to successful planning and program brand launches that contributed to the company success and caring environment with her co-workers. Knowing Janice truly found a job she loved, you could always find her leading Molson sponsored community events throughout the province. Janice always provided support and encouragement for her children and cared for them as only a mother can. Janice enjoyed cheering on Jillian at provincial curling bonspiels as well as Jamie when returning from canoe trips, both making her a very proud Mom. Giving her children both wisdom and courage every step of the way, Janice was and will always be a role model for them. Janice had a passion for the sport of curling which she happily dedicated her life to, engaged as a player, official and coach. Janice was first drawn to the sport as a teenager in Montreal but quickly involved herself once moving back to Winnipeg. Fuelled by passion and hard work, Janice and her team earned the Manitoba provincial title to compete in the 2001 Scott Tournament of Hearts and her team made Manitoba proud by playing hard in a fight for the championship and living in the moment. Following the Scotties, Janice continued to curl competitively as well as turn her passion to organizing bonspiels and charitable functions throughout the province. Janice was a founding member and Co-Chair of the Manitoba Liquor & Lotteries Women’s Classic, was on the Board of Directors for the Manitoba Curling Tour and continually raised funds for the Sandra Schmirler Foundation. Janice’s passion and love for the sport will always be treasured by those who met her both on and off the ice. Janice enjoyed travelling whenever possible during the winter seasons, venturing down to her favourite spots of Florida, Arizona, Mexico, St Maarten and occasionally taking cruises through the Caribbean. Sunsets by the beach, lake or ocean were special times of serenity as they were her favourite attractions. Her family and friends enjoyed amusement parks, guided adventure tours and long walks on the beach by her side. Every year Janice and her close friends made an annual fly-in fishing trip out of Sioux Lookout where they would catch-up on activities, relive old memories and dance the night away. When not travelling, Janice could be found catching the sun on the water or cabin deck, enjoying the outdoors. A celebration of Janice's life will take place Saturday, March 25th at 10:00 am at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St Winnipeg, with Lee Barringer officiating. interment will follow at a future date. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations may be made to the Sandra Schmirler Foundation, or a charity of their choice.
