Obituary of SONIA ANNA RUSNAK

SONIA ANNA RUSNAK

(nee: Ircha)

September 22, 1954 - July 17, 2017

It is with great sorrow that I announce the passing of my dear sister Sonia, aged 62.

Sonia was born in Winnipeg to the joy of our parents Michael and Josephine, and the wonderment of our brother, Maurice. Sonia enjoyed all the activities that children growing up in the 50’s and 60's did and it was accentuated by our parent’s ownership of a corner store. Sonia knew if she pulled on our mother’s heart strings hard enough she would get a treat from the candy counter. She didn't have to pull very hard.

As Sonia was 9 years my senior I will always remember her mothering me when I was a child; teaching me words and phrases in Ukrainian, how to tie my shoes, fixing me snacks,  to comforting me when I got boo boos.

Sonia was a people person and anyone who met her was greeted as if she had known them all her life. For those who already knew her they always counted on a hug as well. Sonia liked both rock and country music from the 50's and 60's. She would sing along whenever a song was played. Sonia especially enjoyed going to concerts featuring such music and didn't have to be encouraged to get up and dance.

Sonia loved dogs and cats and you could always count on conversation turning to our family pet or a friend’s pet. Sonia especially loved our brother Maurice's pet pug, Penny who in turn didn't have to pull on Sonia's heart strings very hard to get a treat.  Most of all…. Sonia loved her family and friends, and we all loved her.

Sonia was predeceased by our parents Michael and Josephine Ircha and brother Maurice Ircha.

Sonia is survived by brother Peter Ircha and numerous cousins.

The family and friends of Sonia wish to thank the staff at Hillcrest Nursing Home, Brandon for their care and comfort in her final days.

We also wish to extend special thanks to the wonderful people  at Amberwood  and McTavish, Brandon for their years of assistance and compassion. Sonia loved you all -  you made her dream a reality.

A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, August 9 at 10:30 a.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street.
