Obituary of ANTONIO GONCALO
ANTONIO GONCALO
Antonio passed away August 13, 2012, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, at age 85.
He was predeceased by his parents, Antonio and Mariana Miguel Goncalo, his daughter Olga, his brother Serafin Goncalves and sister Maria Goncalo. Antonio is survived by his wife Maria, his son Manuel and his wife Maria Lurdes, their children Carla and Garrett, his sisters Helena (Antonio) Tavares, Sara, Odilia Soares, Jermana and his brothers Enrique (Oriana) Goncalves, Jose (Margarida) Goncalves, sister-in-law Nelia Cabral (Jose) and sister-in-law Belmira Pavao and many nieces and nephews.
Antonio was born January 1, 1927, on the island of Sao Miguel, Acores, Portugal, oldest of twelve siblings. Antonio grew up on the island of San Miguel, Acores, where he met and married his wife Maria and had two children. Antonio immigrated to Canada in 1956 and spent several years travelling and working across the country until settling in Winnipeg with his family. Antonio worked in the construction industry all his life. Antonio’s whole life was about his family, often getting emotional hearing the sound of a sibling’s voice over the phone. Antonio was also known for his love of gardening, in particular his large vegetable garden where you would often find him in the summer.
Prayers will be held on Wednesday, August 15 at 8 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, August 16 at 10:00 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, 181 Austin St. N. Interment will follow in Assumption Cemetery.
The family would like to thank the staff at Grace Hospital, they were very caring towards Antonio and the family. In lieu of flowers, donations in Antonio's memory may be made to Grace Hospital Foundation and Manitoba Heart and Stroke Foundation.
