I will always remember Elias as the kid with a big heart and big smile while at Strathcona school. He was always kind and seemed to smile often. It was nice to see him again at Tec Voc, and again while our kids played football on the same NOMADS team. It was nice to know some people never change, and that they always remain kind.
My sincere condolences to the Vierira Family on the loss of your loved one. Always take care of one another.

I played football against Eli & co. for a couple years before joining the Winnipeg Hawkeyes. Eli was a force to be dealt with on the football field - is an understatement for sure. After joining the team in 1990 ( I think) I found Eli to be gentle, friendly, loved to laugh, and was a great teammate all around. He joined us on occasion for late night hockey during the off season, where he also excelled. Unfortunately for me, our paths only crossed once or twice since those carefree days in the 90's. When reading his face book page I was not surprised to see that he had become a beloved father, husband, and an all around success. My Viking bretheren and I are all pleased with his artwork in Gimli, and enjoy the pathways, Viking statues, benches....as do all who go there. Our Lord works in mysterious ways, the reasons for which are not always obvious. I am sure that he will lead and inspire the folks in heaven just as he did here on earth. Your family is in my prayers.

My heartfelt sympathies to not only the family, but all the people who's life Eli touched. Throughout the years we've had many heated battles on the court. That happens when you love to compete. But after the game ended, so did any rivalry and enjoyable discussions about our favorite sports teams usually ensued. Eli you were a straight up, Fair and respectful person with a big heart. Blessings on your new journey.

I genuinely regret your loss. I hope that in due time your family receives God’s peace that excels all thought, so that it will guard your hearts and your mental powers by means of Christ Jesus. God is called the Father of tender mercies and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our tribulation. Rest assured that God cares for all his creatures and he would never bring us suffering. A soothing scripture I like is Psalm 34:18 which reads: “Jehovah is near to those that are broken at heart, and those who are crushed in spirit he saves.” He promised that in the Paradise, we will have the prospect of enjoying life without end, free from all problems, accidents, and sickness. Even our dead loved ones like Eli will be resurrected. (Psalm 37:9, 29; John 5:28, 29) With all my sympathy.

Words cannot express our sorrow in hearing this news. Jean and sons, our hearts break for your loss. Eli was a wonderful helpmate, husband, father and servant of the community. He was taken from this world too soon. But his legacy will live on in his sons, his beloved Jean and the community. May the Lord comfort you all as only He can.
