DOUGLAS HAIG NEWTON
1918 - 2012
It is with great sadness we the family announce the passing of our beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather, and Great Grandfather on August 16, 2012 at the age of 93 years, 2 days prior to his 94th birthday.
Douglas will be loving remembered by his wife Margaret of 65 years, son Brian (Dina); daughter-in-law Marion, his grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and
nephew, along with a multitude of friends. Douglas was predeceased by his mother Lydia, father John, sister Marjorie and son Richard.

Douglas was born in Southwick, England on August 18, 1918. He came to Canada with his parents at age of 3 years. Educated in Winnipeg, and served in the army Provost Corp. Douglas went overseas in 1941, with the 3rd Division where he served in England, Italy and North Africa. Returned to Canada in 1945 where he received his medical discharge. Douglas relocated to Flin Flon. where he worked in the Hudson Bay mines. On returning to Winnipeg in 1959 he worked for Jessman Brothers on contract to Simpson Sears in the delivery department as a driver for a number of years before being promoted to supervisor. Douglas was a member of Royal Canadian Legion Branch 30 and presently at Branch 215. He loved carrying the colours in the Legion colour party and was a life member of the International War Veterans Association where he served as president. He loved vacationing in England, Hawaii, Mexico and Paris. Douglas was proud of his sons and their accomplishments in life.
A special thank you to the staff of Deer Lodge Center Tower 4 for their care and compassion. The family would also like to thank the Department of Veteran Affairs for all their assistance in his time of need. Also thanks to Jean and Mel Dixon for their continuing support.
Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, August 22 at 10:00 a.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. Interment to follow in Glen Eden Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be grandsons Shane, Kyle, Jarret, Douglas, Ian. and Godson Donald.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Douglas’s memory to the Hemophilia Society.
