Obituary of WILLIAM ILLCHUK
WILLIAM ILLCHUK
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Bill at the Grace Hospital on September 24, 2017.
He will be deeply missed by his brother Paul, granddaughter Becky (Tash) step-grandchildren ( Phelan and Amelia), son-in-law Phil and many nieces and nephews. Bill was predeceased by his wife Irene, his long-time partner Mary, his cherished daughter Judy and his siblings Mike, John, George and Kaye.
Bill was born in 1921 in Fort William, Ontario. He worked in Sioux Lookout for Ontario Hydro and as a forest ranger before World War II. He served his country during the war, first by building aircraft at Car Canada from 1939-1942 and then as a member of the Canadian Army from 1942-1946. After the war he worked as a welder at Westeel until his retirement in 1986.
Bill was an avid sports fan and spent many happy hours over coffee with family members and friends including those at Lions Place. He was a kind, generous and loving father of Judy. He was an active and important person in the life of Becky. He never failed to attend Becky`s childhood activities including supporting all the ringette and soccer teams she played on.
Bill`s funeral will take place at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St, Winnipeg on Saturday, September 30 at 11:00 am. A private family burial will take place at Holy Ghost Cemetery.
