Obituary of PEARL ZAHAIKO
PEARL ZAHAIKO
It is with a heavy heart I announce Mom’s peaceful passing on Sunday, October 8, 2017 at Seven Oaks Hospital at the age of 94.
Dad predeceased Mom in 1996, son David in 2003 and son-in-law Bob in 2011; parents, Stefan and Christina Hrydowy; along with all her siblings, Polly Moroz, Katie Bowden, Anne Zver and John Panylyk. Left to mourn is daughter Dianna, her son Kyle and his children, Bree and Nathan; daughter-in-law Gloria and her children; daughter, Carolynne (Denis) and her son Cameron; daughters Shannon and Joanne; son Michael (Hailey); and brother-in-law Bill Zahaiko.
Mom was born April 20, 1923 in Hamerlik (Poplarfield), MB. Mom and Dad were married in 1945 and shortly thereafter settled in Gimli. Her unselfish personality and determined nature were evident in how she faced all of life’s challenges. Always a people person, she loved to entertain and made sure everyone’s bellies were full. In 1999, she moved to Winnipeg, happy to be closer to her family.
Special thanks to all the staff at Holy Family Home, St. Joseph’s ward who welcomed and took such special care of Mom, especially her “angels”.
Funeral service will be Monday, October 16, 2017 at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street at 10:00 a.m. Interment at Transcona Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Kyle Zamkotowich, Cameron Krall, Dr. Bryan Morwick, Bryan Henzel, Albert Tranq and Jim Osowski.
In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations in Mom’s memory may be made to Holy Family Home, 165 Aberdeen Ave., St. Michael’s Ukrainian Catholic Church, 400 Day Street or to a charity of one’s choice.
