THEODORE (TEDDY) ANDREW SOLINSKY

It is with great sorrow that the Solinsky family announce the passing of husband, father, brother and grandfather Ted Solinsky on December 4, 2017 at Victoria General Hospital, Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Ted was predeceased by his mother and father, Mary and Andrew Solinsky, brother Glen, sister Phyllis Hapko and grandson Todd Solinsky.

He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Donna, sons Kerry (Nora) and Keith (Renee), daughter Heather Pagdin (Grant), sons Kent and Kevin, granddaughter Amber, grandsons Kolby (Courtney) and Kramer, granddaughter Hayley Glanc (Patrick), brother Don, and sister JoAnne Laberge (Marcel) and family.

Ted was born in Riverton, Manitoba on February 1, 1935.  He moved to Bissett with his family where he met and married Donna. There, they started their own family, and developed many friendships that have lasted a lifetime. They moved to Fort Garry (Winnipeg) in the summer of 1966 and have resided in the same house ever since.

During his time in Bissett, Ted worked at Currie Transportation. He was also an RCMP Special Constable for five years. Upon moving to Fort Garry, Ted joined Fort Garry Police and then Winnipeg Police Service during the amalgamation process. He retired from WPS on January 21, 1995, a highly regarded Detective Sargent who was fiercely dedicated to his squad.

Following his retirement, Ted and Donna wintered out in B.C. working with Keith on several charity fundraising projects for the next 12 years.

Ted made many friends over the years with his genuine interest in people, and his personable and outgoing personality. Engaging and good humoured, Ted always greeted people with a twinkle in his eye, making time to stop and talk. He was equally happy to make new acquaintances or see old friends. Famous for his stories, Ted was known to stretch the truth at times.

Ted always loved to walk his Schnauzers and visit with other dog walkers. He was the unofficial mayor of Calrossie Blvd. Ted's interests included, fishing, hockey, snowmobiling, gardening, curling, water-skiing and walking. He was also a very active member of the Bissett Historical Society.

Ted’s presence will be missed by his family and many friends, but his spirit will always be with us. He will be remembered as a loving husband, great father, brother and grandfather.

The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation for the great care and kindness extended to Ted and family by Dr. Sheldon Permack, Scott Neherniak and the wonderful staff on Four North, Victoria General Hospital and Cropo Funeral Chapel.

A Celebration of Life for Ted will be held on Friday, January 12, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba.

In lieu of flowers, the family would suggest a donation to a charity of your choice in Ted’s memory.
