Obituary of MARY CHIMUK
MARY CHIMUK
(nee Taraschuk)
It is with heartfelt sadness, but with gracious thanksgiving that we announce the passing of our beloved mom and grandmother. Surrounded by her family, Mom passed peacefully from our hands to God’s on Monday, January 15, 2018 at the age of 95. Her prayers were answered, her burdens have been lifted and she is finally at peace.
Mary will be lovingly remembered and forever cherished by her daughters, MaryAnn (Gary) and Diane (John); grandchildren, T.J., (Rebecca), Kylee (Matt) and Dana (Matt); great-grand-daughter Olivia; and honorary daughter Darlene. She also leaves to mourn her passing her sisters-in-law, Bernice, Anne and Helen; as well as numerous nieces and nephews and the many friends made along life’s journey. Mary was predeceased by her parents, Andrew and Anna Taraschuk; her husband Walter Chimuk; her siblings, John, Francis, Mike, Pete and Andy; and son-in-law Tom Bender.
Mary was born on the family homestead in Sky Lake, MB on September 26, 1922. She was the youngest of five siblings. Mom was never afraid of hard work and her first experience came from working on the farm. During her lifetime she had worked at the Cordite Plant, Perth’s Dry Cleaners, Chimuk’s Groceries and Trident Press.
Mom was an avid reader and enjoyed knitting, crocheting, walking, gardening, playing cards, cribbage and in her later years doing word searches. Gifts of her handiwork in the form of afghans, sweaters, mittens, toques will be forever cherished.
Mom will be remembered for her kind and gentle spirit, her generosity, her strong faith, her sassy wit and her determination especially in the later years. She took great pride in her family and was always there for them; nothing made mom happier than spending time together. Her patience, kindness and love for her children and grandchildren will be forever treasured.
We thank the staff at Holy Family for the care you have given mom over the past five years.
