LUDMILLA (LUCY) KLOS
(nee WANSBUTTER)
It is with extreme sadness we announce the passing of Ludmilla “Lucy” Klos at the Charleswood Personal Care Home on Tuesday, January 16, 2018 following a brief illness at the age of 93 years.
Predeceased by her loving husband George Klos in 2009; and her parents Nina and Witold Wansbutter.
Lucy was born in Minsk, Russia on October 13, 1924. She grew up in Belarus and lived on a farm. Lucy fled Russia due to the politics in 1943. She lived in Germany for a short time and later fled to a Polish DP camp. Lucy immigrated to Canada in 1949, later becoming a Canadian citizen. She lived in Quebec working as a nanny then later moved to Winnipeg, MB in 1951. Lucy met George at English School and later married on September 16, 1952. Lucy worked in different factories and then at the Paddlewheel restaurant at The Hudson’s Bay for 25 years, before retiring in 1992. She loved to travel and visited many destinations such as Russia, Alaska, Hawaii and many road trips throughout the United States and Canada. She enjoyed spending summers at her Star Lake cottage with family, picking blueberries, mushrooms and fishing. Lucy loved her home in Winnipeg, tending to her vegetable and flower gardens. Lucy was a wonderful cook, famous for her torts and home made soups. Everyone that met Lucy loved her for her kind heart and generous spirit.
Lucy leaves to cherish her memory: Brother Edward (and Lenya) Wansbutter. Daughter: Victoria Thornton. Son: Erik (Holly) and granddaughter Megan Acton-Klos
