Obituary of TEKLA SKINDER
TEKLA SKINDER (PASIEKA)
Sadly we announce the passing of Tekla Skinder, at home on February 27, 2018. Tekla was born June 28, 1923 in Wola Gorzanska, Krakow, Poland. She fondly recalled living with her family before being forced to work in Germany during the War. Tekla came to Winnipeg in 1946 where she met her beloved husband of 58 years, Hipolit - they married in 1948. At that time they were fortunate to be part of a supportive community where they made lifelong friends. In those early years when they started their own family Tekla worked at MTS on Corydon Avenue and later the Metropolitan Theatre. She made friends easily and held on to those special relationships over time.
It was a true delight to be around Tekla, she was a caring and giving individual with that rare capacity for Joy. She also supported the good works of the Missionary Sisters of St. Peter Claver to help the poor. The adversities of life were offset with a fabulous wit and humour that also reflected her creative spirit. Easter was her most cherished time of year and we fondly remember her colouring eggs as part of the traditions she maintained from her early life in Poland.
Tekla was predeceased by her husband Hipolit and brother Michael and survived by her sons Edward and Richard and niece Klemtia and family in Winnipeg as well as nephews Roman and Walter and their families in Poland as well as niece Ewa and daughters in Germany and UK.
A profound understanding and compassion for people underscored her deep faith and Love of God which made her an extraordinary person. As a Mother, Wife and Friend there is nothing more we could have wished for.
We extend our gratitude to HCA Colette for her devotion as well as the WRHA Palliative Care Team for their support…Thank you all.
