Obituary of JEAN MAKSYMCHUK
Jean Maksymchuk, aged 95 years old passed away on Saturday, March 3rd after a brief illness. Jean was predeceased by her husband Mike, her brothers Jack and Stan Lula, and her son-in-law Larry Marchenski. She is survived by her children Stella Galay (Mike), Nellie Marchenski, Mike (Val) and Cheryl Boguski (Darrell). She will be remembered fondly by her grandchildren Alan (Solay), Wayne (Janice), Terry, Trevor, and Luke and great grandchildren Chance and Savanna. Sister Nellie Masiak and nephew John Boyechko along with many friends and relatives mourn the loss of Jean and her ever welcoming and caring personality. Jean was born in Poland and moved to Canada with her family when she was seven years old. Her parents Mary and Lawrence Lula eventually settled in Rorketon where they farmed for many years. Jean loved to play sports and do things in the outdoors and this carried through her life from playing soccer and baseball as a child, to gardening and camping with her own family, to five pin bowling and carpet bowling as a senior. She married Mike when she was sixteen and they farmed in the Rorketon area for several years before moving to Winnipeg. She loved hosting family and friend get-togethers, serving her delicious perogies and baking. In Winnipeg, Jean also worked in the food service industry and fondly remembered her time at Monarch Life Insurance. As a widow, Jean lived for twenty years at Louis Riel Chalet where she was involved in volunteering and participating in the activities there: bingo, card games, birthday parties, sing-a-longs, flower gardens and chapel services. Jean’s religious faith was important to her as was seen in her daily prayers and attendance to church services whether at St. Emile’s Church, St. Benedict’s Monastery Chapel, Kildonan Personal Care Home or her home church of St. Joseph’s Ukrainian Catholic Church. A special thank you goes to Father Bohdan Lukie and Father Frank Szadiak for their visits while at St. Benedict’s as well as Kildonan Personal Care Home. Another thank you on behalf of Jean goes to the staff and residents of Kildonan Personal Care Home for their friendship, care and support.
A Funeral Service in memory of Jean will be held on Saturday, March 10th, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. with Fr. John Sianchuk, CSsR. Interment will follow at Holy Family Cemetery.
Donations in memory of Jean can be made to the Blessed Vasyl Shrine at St. Joseph’s Ukrainian Catholic Church or a charity of their choice.
