Obituary of JOHN LORNE BENSON
JOHN BENSON
Peacefully, on April 19, 2018, John Lorne Benson passed away at age 73 at the Concordia Hospital, Winnipeg Manitoba. He was born on January 26, 1945 in Deloraine, Manitoba.
Predeceased by his mother Vera Ann Benson and his father Ingolfur Lorne Benson, John is survived by his sister Beverly Benson, brother Kenneth Benson, son Kirk Shepherd ( Barb Gard) and granddaughters Kiana and Emalee.
Initially, John worked for the Bank of Montreal and then he went on to be employed for many years by the CNR in Regina and Winnipeg.
He loved many sports, including supporting his favourite CFL team, the Saskatchewan Roughriders, and NHL team, the Winnipeg Jets. Over the years he enjoyed many hobbies which included shortwave and ham radio, darts, curling, camping, fishing, boating and golfing. He especially enjoyed his annual fishing and golf trips to Clear Lake and Tobin Lake with his buddies from Regina and Winnipeg.
John was very proud of his Icelandic heritage and loved his trip there with his cousins and sister a few years ago.
Over the years, John had three very special Labradors whom he loved dearly. His most recent labrador, Ziva, was a great comfort to him during his struggles with his health issues during these past few years.
The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the staff at Concordia Hospital and especially to Dr. Tunovic.
Cremation has taken place, and a Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, September 12 at 2:00p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street in Winnipeg.
