Obituary of FRANCES WINKLER
FRANCES WINKLER
Peacefully on April 28, 2018, mom passed away after a brief illness.
Mom was predeceased by her husband Arthur, parents Annie and Samuel, sisters Mary, Lillian, and Olga; brothers John, Mike, Paul, Peter, and Bill.
Left to cherish her memory are her son Michael, daughter Pamela, and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Mom was born in Winnipeg and grew up on Selkirk Ave. in the north end. She was very close to her siblings and remained so throughout her life. Upon leaving high school she worked at Johnston terminal and greatly enjoyed her time there. She also participated in bowling and curling leagues, along with some of her siblings, and enjoyed doing so. She met her husband Arthur and they then married and started a family. Mom was a homemaker whose main focus was her children and husband and caring for them. When the children were young there were many summer camping trips and always something going on in the backyard like badminton or basketball with mom nearby. Mom also participated in the community doing volunteer work at the children’s schools and later at Holy Family Nursing Home. She was a long time member of St. Joseph’s Ukrainian Catholic Church and the North Centennial Seniors Association where she loved carpet bowling, hotdog days, and socializing. Mom loved cooking for the holidays, especially her holabchi which everyone loved.
For the last two years mom resided at the Boulton where she made friends and enjoyed socializing at meals. Mom loved playing cribbage, watching Blue Jays baseball games, and going with Pam and her dog for car rides. We would like to thank the staff and homecare workers at the Boulton for taking care of mom’s many needs. Special thanks to our cousins and friends for their support, assistance, and visits to mom over the past couple of years.
A celebration of moms life will take place on Wednesday May 9 at 2 pm at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street, with Fr. Frank Szadiak, CSsR officiating. Interment will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to a charity of ones choice in mom’s memory.
