Raymond Jack Herny

August 19, 1942  —  June 19, 2018

Suddenly and sadly on June 19, 2018 Ray passed away at the age of 75.

Left to mourn are his partner Gaeline Delmarque, son Trevor (Kassie), grandchildren Luke, Patrick, Olivia, also son Ryan and brother Jack (Alana).

Ray grew up in Winnipeg’s North End and that was where he made many friends. Those friendships continued his entire life. 

In his youth and teen years he played hockey and baseball at the Canadian Ukrainian Athletic Club and baseball at the Canadian Polish Athletic Club. As time went by Ray also enjoyed curling and golf on many occasions.

His education led him initially to a short stint as a surveyor with the private sector and eventually to a long term career with Manitoba Hydro where he occupied various positions over 38 years. He retired from Manitoba Hydro in 2006 and in order to keep busy he became a shuttle driver with Birchwood Motors. Ray saw this as an opportunity to combine two things he loved - taking advantage of his excellent sense of direction and being with people.

With his sons living away from home, Ray always made an effort to see them as often as he could. He made trips to Taiwan, Phoenix and Melbourne.

Ray and Gaeline enjoyed travelling and they spent parts of some winters in Phoenix visiting family and friends. They also spent time in Florida, Texas, China and their latest adventure took them to Cuba and from there they embarked on a Ocean Cruise.

A Celebration of Ray’s Life will be held at 7:00 PM on Thursday July 5, 2018 at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street.
