Obituary of ANNE BURNS
Anne Cecilia Burns
Peacefully, on Thursday, September 27, 2018, with family lovingly at her side, Anne Burns passed away at Luther Home in Winnipeg at the age of 98.
She will be forever cherished by her daughter Adele and husband George Rohulych; son Ken and his wife Crystal; grandchildren, Heather, Sheila (Tyler) and Matthew (Amanda); great-grandchildren, Madison and London; and sister Helen Milko.
Anne was predeceased by her parents Joseph and Tekla Pyziak; brothers, Alexander (in infancy), Charles, Kazmir (Adele) and Stanley (Josephine); sisters, Josephine, Joanne, Katie (Tom), Mary (Nick) and Frances (Walter); and grandson Andrew.
Anne was born in Zbaraz, Manitoba in 1920. She started her teaching career in rural and Northern Manitoba where she met her husband Victor in The Pas. They were married in 1949 and had two children. Anne had an adventurous spirit and truly loved her years in the northern communities. In 1957 they moved to Portage la Prairie and then Winnipeg in 1959, where Anne raised a happy family and taught at St. Alphonsus School and substituted in the River East School Division. Anne was active in the Catholic Women’s League for over 65 years. She loved travelling throughout Canada, the US and Europe, tending her garden along Roch St. where friends and passers-by would stop to admire her flowers and chat with her, playing bridge with friends, needlepoint, knitting, and enjoying nature.
Anne’s most treasured moments were those spent with her family. She and Victor were inseparable, enjoying travels and so many activities together until his untimely death in 1994. Anne was a loving and caring mother who encouraged the very best in her children and was at her happiest with her four precious grandchildren and recently, visits from her two great-granddaughters. She was a woman of tremendous faith who instilled a love of God in her family.
Anne’s life will be celebrated at the Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, October 10 at 11:00 a.m at St. Alphonsus Roman Catholic Church, Munroe and Brazier with Rev. Fr. Greg Mulligan, OFM Cap. as celebrant. Interment will follow in Glen Lawn Memorial Gardens.
The family would like to thank all of the staff of Luther Home for their kindness and incredible care in these last four years. Mom could not have had a better home than what you were able to provide in so many ways.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation may be made to St. Alphonsus Church or School, Luther Home, 1081 Andrews St, Wpg R2V 2G9 or Rossbrook House, 658 Ross Ave, Wpg R3A 0M1.
