Obituary of SANDRA RYBACHOK
Sandra Rybachok
March 8, 1924 – October 1, 2018
It is with great sorrow that we announce Sandra’s passing.
She will be dearly missed by her children Donna, John, Orest & Vicky and their families, as well as her sisters Steffie and Marie and their families, and her late daughter Anne’s family. She was predeceased by her Mother and Father, (Anne & Steve), her husband John, her brother John, her daughter Anne, and her grandson Kelly.
Mom was born in Gliniany Zastawie Poland, and immigrated to Canada with her family in 1938. They settled in the Komarno area. Sadly, her Mother died when she was just 17, and she became the matriarch of her family. She worked very hard cooking, cleaning, canning and taking care of her younger siblings.
In 1946, she went to work in Grimsby, Ontario where she met and married her husband John. They moved to Transcona in 1951 and resided there until after Dad passed in 1980.
Mom treasured her family, more than anything. We lived in a tiny 2 bedroom house, but no matter who came into town, whether it was Mom’s relatives or Dad’s, Mom would make room for everyone. She would cook, clean, bake and welcome anyone who needed a meal or a place to stay. As children, we remember Christmas and Easter with the whole family over. The kitchen and living room would be full to capacity with people. But, the table was always full of food and there was always room for a couple more.
Mom was always the kind of person who would invite people over, who didn’t have anyone to spend the holiday with. It didn’t matter that we did not have a lot of money, she was always willing to share what we did have, with anyone who needed it.
Whenever her children, grandchildren, or anyone for that matter, would visit, they were treated to a wonderful meal. And, you never got to go home without a care package of baking or food.
Her whole life was dedicated to her Lord and Church. She was a member of the Ukrainian Catholic Women’s league for over 60 years. Every morning for the past 10 years or so, she walked across the street to Church to sing mass. She sang like an Angel with her beautiful Soprano Voice. Every Thursday morning was reserved for making perogies at the Church.
We have been so blessed to have her as our Mother, and we will always cherish our memories of her. Rest well, sweet Mom.
Divine Liturgy will be sung at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday October 9 at Holy Eucharist Ukrainian Catholic Parish, 505 Watt Street, with Very Rev. Michael Kwiatkowski officiating. Interment to follow in Transcona Cemetery.
