It's hard to believe that exactly one year ago Gerry was visiting us for three weeks in Illinois. He enjoyed our day trip to St Louis with my dad, Bill, nephew, Trevor and I. He enjoyed the St Louis Museum of Transportation, especially the vintage cars. We also toured The Arch and to my surprise, he was a little intimidated by its height looking down on the City and the Mississippi River below. We attended the local Halloween parade and he enjoyed the live mannequins in the bridal storefront, the flashmob and of course the long parade, ....especially the old cars with hydrolic wheel lifts that surprised and entertained.
On my trip up to the cabin with dad this summer he took me out fishing one evening till after dark for walleye. He introduced me to the boat parachute, of which I was unfamiliar and found quite unusual. We talked for hours and enjoyed the beautiful sunset and full moon. I caught the only fish...and I'll never forget that he said "you're kidding" and I excitedly replied No, I'm not, further commenting some women can catch more fish than men, Gerry.
Gerry was a great neighbor at the Lake to my entire family, especially mom and dad. He made great wine. Dad saved empty bottles and took to him to refill every year. Although he was not one to consume much alcohol, he introduced me to the B52 which we savored (and which I have yet to find in the US). He was looking forward to a trip to Illinois this Fall and we are so saddened by this turn of events. Gerry was such a positive, fun, outgoing man. He will forever be in our hearts.
Love and hugs to Erica, Abbie and Helena. He talked of you all the time and you were the most important thing to him above all else. Hope to see you next summer at the Lake.
