Obituary of JERRY LYLYK
JERRY LYLYK
It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Jerry Lylyk, on October 27, 2018 in Winnipeg at age 75.
Jerry leaves to mourn daughter Christine and son Jonathan of Winnipeg, sister Margie of Vancouver, brother Teddy (Bev) of Winnipeg, nephew Will (Liz) nephew Rob (Trish) of Winnipeg, nephew Dylan and niece Statia of Vancouver, and sister in-law Marilyn of Red Rock Ontario. Jerry was predeceased by his wife Glenda, parents Olga and Alexander Lylyk, and great-nephew Nathan.
Jerry was born and raised in Winnipeg, a city for which he held immense pride. After obtaining his Master’s degree in Social Work, he began work with Children’s Aid, where he met and eventually married Glenda. For years Jerry and Glenda ran their own store, Harvester Fine Foods. After the birth of their first child, Christine, Glenda devoted herself as a full time mother, and Jerry returned to work for Child and Family Services. Jerry spent several decades in service to families in need, work that he did with uncompromising dedication and compassion.
Jerry’s life was very rarely conventional, but the good that he put forth into the world is undeniable, and ultimately, truly remarkable.
He will be sorely missed.
A memorial service will be held at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. on Monday, November 5, 2018 at 7:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Winnipeg or the United Way.
