GILBERT MICHAEL CHAMPAGNE
Gilbert passed away peacefully at Concordia Hospital in Winnipeg on Thursday, November 15, 2018 at the age of 91 years.
Born on November 14, 1927 in Sandilands, Manitoba.
Gil spent the first years of his working career as a teacher in the rural areas of Manitoba. Later in his career he was employed at the Canadian Wheat Board and eventually transferred to Montreal as Manager of the Eastern Canada Division of the Canadian Wheat Board. He retired from the Wheat Board and returned to Winnipeg in 1992 with his wife.
Pastimes included volunteering, needlepoint, curling and he loved dancing and singing.
Gil was predeceased by his wife Nan; parents Michel and Maria Champagne; sisters Callista (Bill), Maria (Gus), Lenore (Hermas) and Therese (Gaston).
He is survived by his daughters Michele, Bonny (Ken) and grandson Josh; sister Jeanine, as well as many nieces and nephews and their families as well as many cousins. Also left to mourn are a very special brother and sister-in-law Larry and Dorothy who were dedicated to his care.
Special thanks to the staff at Irene Baron Centre and medical staff at the Concordia Hospital that showed care and compassion in his last days.
In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held on Friday, November 23 at 2:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing to do so may contribute, in the memory of Gil, to the Alzheimer Society or the Canadian Cancer Foundation.
