WENDY DOER (née KUZ)

 It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that the family of Wendy Doer (neé Kuz) announce the peaceful passing of our beloved Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Sister and Aunt on Monday, November 26, 2018 at the Health Sciences Centre, in Winnipeg, MB, at the age of 66.

Wendy is survived by her husband David; her son Davy (Jenn); grandchildren, Andy and Penelope; brothers, Bill (Bea) and Joe (Manon), and sister Deb as well as beloved nieces and nephews.

Wendy was born to parents, Bill and Doreen on January 27, 1952 in Winnipeg, MB. She grew up the eldest of four. In 1973 she married the love of her life, David Doer in Winnipeg. The honeymoon was short lived. The day after the wedding she moved to Toronto where David was working to become an Accountant. His career took him and Wendy all over the world. Over the next seven years they moved to Abbotsford, BC, Burlington, ON, back to Toronto, and finally to Maracaibo, Venezuela. It wasn't until 1980 that she got to plant roots, her and David bought a home in Winnipeg. It was then in 1982 she had her only son Davy. With Davy 10 months old, the whole family moved to Cairo, Egypt. Finally in 1985 they were back in Winnipeg for good. All in all she moved 13 times since 1973.

After high school, Wendy worked at Zellers where she met David, she then went on to become banquet manager at the Charter House, and later Head Teller of the Royal Bank head office in Toronto. Once Davy arrived it was Full Time Mom for her. She was always involved in Davy's schools: running hotdog and pizza days at St. John Brebeuf, volunteering for every field trip, and volunteering at Davy's high school, St. Paul's, to work in the sport shop. She always said she was in school as much as Davy, maybe more.

 In 1992 David and Wendy, along with friends started Casino's Unlimited. In case running the household and a new side venture wasn't enough, they started Rice Bay Store and Marina that summer in Laclu, ON. Wendy spent her summers for the next eight years in Laclu running the small general store with Davy, David on weekends, and a few staff. You would have been hard pressed to find one bit of dust in that store, or anything out of place. Nearly every day in the winter was booking casino events to be had every weekend. All the while caring for five indoor cats and two dogs, keeping a spotless house, and keeping her family fed. No easy feat.

 She was a friend to animals of all kinds. Every day she would replenish the heated bird bath water and the bird food. She fed the birds to the tune of $40 per day, that's a lot of feed. She had hundreds of thankful birds or 'happy customers' as she called them, and over 50 ducks per day year round. You couldn't hold a full conversation with her on the phone without her saying in the middle of a sentence, "Oh, another bird just arrived", or "Oh look, a dove, they're so pretty" or "There's one two three four five six rabbits eating right now". When it snowed, she would go out there during the storm to shovel a path so she would be able to get to the feeders and wipe the snow off so the birds would know where to get it. Wendy loved to spoil her family and friends. The multicourse meals, the thoughtful gifts and the extra mile she would always go to make everyone comfortable and welcome around her. You would never leave her house hungry. She then moved on to spoiling her two grandchildren who she thought the world of. She would never say no to a glass of white wine or a piece of chocolate sin cake. Wendy loved and cherished her girl lunches that she and her girlfriends would get together and have every few months over for the last 20 years.

A special thank you to all the staff at CancerCare Manitoba and the GD wing. Wendy could not believe how kind and caring they all were to her. A special thanks to Dr. Penner, Nurse Sarah, and Polish Aide Joanna who went that extra mile to make Wendy feel that much happier and more comfortable over her short stay in hospital.

A funeral service will be held at St. John Brebeuf Church at 1707 John Brebeuf Place on Tuesday, December 4, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. Reception will be announced at the service.

Wendy rejoins her lost loved ones. She was a special one-of-a-kind lady that we had the privilege to know. Rest in Peace.
