Dear Stacey & Amanda:
I had only heard recently that your Mother had been ill and that she had passed away. My many condolences to you and your families. Irene was a woman of many talents, not only her ability to work so well with numbers (having worked with her under Gord Elvers employment), but also her ways with fabric, wool, yarn. She had such a love of her cats that I remember fondly.
My best to you all.
Sharon

To Irene's family, our deepest condolences. I grew up in Keewatin not far from the Walsh family. I do remember skipping rope under the street light, figure skating and marjorettes. In fact your Mom introduced us, thought we were a match made in heaven.
Rest in peace, Irene
Louise & Phil

Dear Stacy, Amanda, Phil, David, and all of Irene’s family. Just learned tonight of your Mom’s / Irene’s passing. I am so very sorry.
Memories spent together as best friends on Wharf Street have always brought me chuckles and awe at how much fun we had...Sleepovers that kept others awake, birthday parties with Mrs. Walsh’s home made French fries, card games at the kitchen table, begging to join the boys on the lawn for those baseball games, and one of my favourites... Irene walking me home at night, to the “first big tree “on Yonge’s lot. Then I was on my own for 50 ft! We snuggled one more time, sharing those memories and our new adult challenges on one unique occasion that we were both home visiting our parents...giggling like school girls, once again into the wee hours. Irene was special...such a kind and caring soul. I will always treasure our childhood friendship...it was THE BEST. I was lucky !
Hugs to you all.
With love and sincere condolences,
Jane (Welch ) Evans
PS I know I have photos somewhere...and can forward ...please let me know where I might send them should you like them.

I knew Irene for the last 35 years (MPQ member) and always found her upbeat and a wonderful person to know. I was really sorry to hear of her passing.

Am saddened to learn of Irene's death and her last years. I met Irene as a quiltmaker in my shop "Patchwork House". When it closed in 1982, Irene was one of the founders of the Manitoba Prairie Quilters, an organization of quiltmakers (35+ years ago now) who wanted to continue meeting together and still do - she was secretary and/or treasurer of early MPQ executives, always volunteering as well as "quiltmaking"; she often spoke of her family. Apologies for not being with you on Friday - she will be remembered.

Stacy & Amanda and families, I am so very sorry for the loss of your Mom. Irene and I have been friends since we were kids although we hadn't seen each other in many years, but kept in touch at Xmas time where she gave me up-dates on her family, but never told me about having cancer. So typical of her, eh! Very sad day.
