Obituary of DAISY FAGNAN
DAISY FAGNAN (NEE STEVENS)
June 8, 1936 - October 4, 2012
On October 4, 2012 at the age of 76 beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great great grandmother, sister, auntie and cousin Daisy Fagnan passed away peacefully at the Health Science Centre.
She is survived by her daughters Heather (Bob), Elizabeth (Dave), Jo-Ann (Terry), and Cynthia (Jason), siblings Hugh, Pearly (Linda), Albert (Sylvia), Sandra (Doug), and Edna, as well as numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and numerous friends.
Daisy was predeceased by her parents, Edward and Nancy Stevens, brothers Ernest and Tommy, sisters Gladys, Lucy and Elizabeth and daughter Debbie.
Daisy was a Cree woman who was born in Swan Lake Settlement and moved to Sapotaweyak, Manitoba where she was raised for the first five years of her life. Like many other young First Nation children, Daisy was forced to attend residential school and for six years of her young life Daisy was away from her family. Daisy clung to the teachings of her parents and paternal grandmother. In spite of being taken away from home and family, Daisy managed to keep sacred the language of her mother-tongue; Cree which she spoke fluently. Between 1978 and 1996, Daisy worked as a teacher's assistant, teaching nursery and kindergarten at David Livingstone School - an inner city school in the Winnipeg School Division. Daisy loved teaching the little children as much as they loved her as a teacher. Upon her retirement, Daisy worked for Northern Star Collections where she mastered the art of sewing star blankets. We honour Daisy as a mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great great grandmother and teacher. We also recognized her quiet leadership.
