Obituary of MARGARET KARPETZ
Margaret Karpetz
(nee Staska)
With loving family by her side Margaret (Marge) Karpetz, passed away at the age of 96 on February 9, 2019 at St. Boniface Hospital.
Marge will be missed and eternally remembered by her daughter Sandra (Michael) Zawaly, her two granddaughters, Krissy (Ricky) and Katie (Michael); her son Ken (Verna); her sister in-law Anne, nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband Paul, her parents John and Minnie Staska, and her brother Richard.
Marge was born on December 18, 1922 in Ladywood, Manitoba. She lived on her parent’s farm and attended Ladywood School until she graduated from the highest grade offered, which led her to move to Winnipeg.
Marge knew Paul all her life and their affection began in their youth. When Marge came to Paul’s parent’s store & post office, he always had a chocolate waiting for her. They were married in 1948, following Paul’s service in WWII with the Canadian Army.
Warmth and joviality filled Marge’s personality, which led her to excel in customer relations at the Blue Ribbon Co., Salisbury House, and Metro Dry Cleaners. Her loving nature shaped and supported her children throughout their lives and will continue to guide them.
Marge was devoted to her immediate and extended family. Together with Paul and later on her own, her door was always open to having their parents, cousins, nieces and nephews stay with her. Her granddaughters, on whose lives she had a profound influence, fondly remember special times with Grandma.
She was an innovative cook, creating delicious meals at a moments notice for whoever walked in the door. From her colorful tulips in the spring, to the harvest in the fall, gardening was a passion that Marge truly enjoyed and cultivated in her granddaughters.
For the past 6 years Devonshire House 2 was Marge’s home. The family expresses heartfelt thanks to the community there, especially Marge’s tablemates. Sincere gratitude is also expressed to the wonderful Health Care Aides, whose care and attention over the years gave her the opportunity to thrive.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday February 15, at 11:00 am at St. Alphonsus Roman Catholic Church, 315 Munroe Ave. Interment will follow in Glen Eden Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
