Obituary of BERNADETTE GERALDINE WALASHEK
Bernadette Geraldine Walashek (Van Caeseele)
April 12, 1948 – February 19, 2019
On February 19, 2019 at Selkirk Regional Health Center, beloved Mother, Grandma, Great Grandma, Sister and friend passed away suddenly at the age of 70 years old.
Bernadette is survived by her children Walter Jr.(Tammy), Geraldine(Walter), David, and Jeffrey(Leah). Grandchildren Christopher(Kaitlyn), Cora(Stephen), Matthew(Heather), Jonathan, Emma, Julie, and Logan. Great Grandchildren Sadie, Piper, Ryder, and Brynnley. Sister Ellen(Lloyd), brother Robert, many extended family, nieces, nephews and friends.
Bernadette was predeceased by her husband Walter Sr after 40 years of marriage. Parents George and Muriel Van Caeseele, sister Joann, brother Patrick and parents in-law John and Millie Walashek.
Bernadette was born in Langenburg, Saskatchewan on April 12, 1948. Her family moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba where she attended school and met the love of her life, Walter Walashek Sr. They were married on November 19, 1966 and had four children. After a couple of moves, they settled in St. Andrews, Manitoba to raise their growing family. She had many jobs through the years and eventually retired from Middle Church Home. In the years that followed, Bernadette and Walter Sr. had many family BBQ’s with candy scrambles, pie eating contests and of coarse, the pig roasts. She enjoyed playing cards, painting ceramics, and being involved with her children, and grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the staff at Betel Home in Selkirk, Manitoba for their years of care and compassion. As well as the doctors and nurses in her final moments at Selkirk Regional Health Center.
Prayers will be said on Friday, February 22 at 7:30 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, February 23, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Margaret’s Roman Catholic Church, 103 Little Britain Road.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in honor of Bernadette, at The Society of Manitobans With Disabilities.
