Obituary of PHYLLIS KATHLEEN AUGUST

PHYLLIS KATHLEEN AUGUST

(nee Park)

Peacefully on February 17, 2019 Phyllis Kathleen August passed away at Middlechurch Care Home.

She was predeceased by Paul August her husband of 53 years, parents John and Mary, sister Gladys Goodall and brothers Earl, Melvin and Harold.

She is survived by her sons Gerald (Ruth), David (Donna) and daughter Arlene Mourant (Rick),  grandchildren Ian (Temperance), Martine, Pamela (Brian) Paul (Tina), Derek and Colleen Mourant,  great grandchildren Falco, Simon, Daphne, Iesha, Isaac and Sophie her sisters Irene Park (Ben), Evelyn Haycock, Shirley Paterson, June Yeats and brother Larry as well as many nieces and nephews.

Phyllis was born in Lac du Bonnet into a large family and had happy memories of swimming and dancing with her special group of friends.  The war years curtailed their fun but brought veteran Paul August to town and they married in 1947.  Paul's banking career brought them to Winnipeg where Phyllis thrived working and playing championship curling. The next move was Baldur for many years and finally Hamiota where they retired.  They spent 20 happy years with friends wintering in Texas.  When Paul died Phyllis moved to Lion's Manor in Brandon and then to Riverwood Square in Winnipeg.  Each move saw her setting up a warm home, becoming part of the community and learning new things.  Phyllis enjoyed golf, gardening, cooking and baking as well as painting and playing the piano. She excelled at whatever she tried but got special joy from art and painting.

We will miss her sense of humour, always on time birthday cards, delicious pies and especially her devoted love of family.

Thank you to the staff at Middlechurch Care Home for their care and kindness.
