STANISLAWA (STELLA) MROZEK
November 26, 1924 – February 28, 2019
Stella, Stasia, Babcia passed away peacefully in her sleep at Riverview Health Centre on February 28, 2019. During her final days she was in the continuing company of family and friends.
Stella was predeceased by her husband Frank; daughter Theresa and all of her siblings in Poland.
Stella leaves behind to mourn her: son George (Anita); daughter Elizabeth Luke; son Julian (Teresa); grandchildren Odessa Ingarfield, Candice Szczepanski. Jessica Mrozek (Geza), Matt Mrozek (Jess), Joshua Mrozek, Kaitlyn and Alex; great grandchildren Maija, Carter, Grayson and Evie. She also leaves behind many close friends and extended family.
Stella was born in Golina, Poland to Jacob and Marianna (nee Piotrowska) Gorniewicz and was the youngest of six children. In 1940 Stella and her sisters were taken to Germany to work for farmers during WWII. After the war she was sent by the allies to Bolton, England where she worked and socialized with a close group of Polish refugees. During that time she met and married husband Frank. They were married on September 23, 1950 and soon they were parents to two young children. They family of four moved to Winnipeg in 1956 in search of a better life. Some years later two more children joined the family. Stella was a cheerful, hardworking, well organized, strong –willed woman and a wonderful mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was a devout Roman Catholic who was a long-time member of the Holy Ghost Church Ladies Auxiliary.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, March 11 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Ghost Roman Catholic Church, 341 Selkirk Avenue with visitation one half hour prior. Interment to follow in Holy Ghost Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will be held in the Holy Ghost basement hall after the interment.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Stella’s memory to a charity of your choice.
