Obituary of Barbara Ruth Penelope Friesen
Barbara Ruth Penelope “Penny” Friesen
(nee Kitney)
June 24, 1948 – April 4, 2019
Penny’s pain and suffering ended as she went home to be with her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ on April 4, 2019. Penny was born on June 24, 1948 in Winnipeg, Manitoba to Arthur and Audrey Kitney. Penny was raised in Winnipeg and after training as an LPN, she enrolled in the Canadian Forces and became a medic. During her service, while she was posted to Borden, On, she met a young man from Hague, SK, who became her husband, Ernie. The newlyweds were stationed in Comox, British Columbia, where their first child Audra-Beth was born, and then transferred to Edmonton, Alberta, where their second child Trevor was born. After this, Penny returned to Winnipeg where she raised her family and worked at a variety of jobs. Penny attended and was involved at Transcona Alliance Church and later at Calvary Temple, both in Winnipeg. At the time of her passing, Penny was a resident of Park Manor Care Home.
Penny was predeceased by both her parents; Arthur(Kit) Kitney and Audrey Kitney(nee Whitcomb). Penny will be missed by her husband Ernie, her daughter Audra-Beth (Corey), son Trevor (Joanne), brother Rick (Nicki), grandchildren Micah, Deacon, Aiden, Beckem, Zachariah, Ehlana, and Ellery. There are also numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews, whom she loved and enjoyed any time she could spend with them.
The family would like to thank the staff of Park Manor who provided wonderful care and support to Penny while she was a resident. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, April 10 at 2:00pm at Calvary Temple, 400 Hargrave Street, Winnipeg. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Clinic of Winnipeg, or Park Manor Personal Care Home.
