JEAN KOSTER

Peacefully, on Wednesday, May 22, 2019 Jean Frances Koster passed away at Holy Family Home.

Jean was born on December 7, 1918, in Elkhorn Manitoba. She was the middle child and only daughter of Anastasia and Anthony Cheremshynski.

She was predeceased by her husband Michael Koster, brothers Joseph Tone and Albert Tone.

She is survived by her two sons, Dennis Koster (Orysia), and Raymond Koster. She is also survived by her extended family of nephews, William Koster (Karen), Tom Koster (Gail), and Andrew Koster and their families, and sister in law Donna Tone and family.

Jean lived to be 100 years old. Not many people live to be 100, with presence of mind and body. She was able to celebrate her 100^th birthday with friends and family at Holy Family Home on December 7, 2019.

Jean left her family home in Elkhorn Manitoba and moved to Winnipeg to work, when she was 20 years old. She found work in the garment industry where she worked on and off for years.

Jean met her husband Michael Koster, a movie projectionist, they were married in 1943. On July 29, 1948 Jean's eldest son Dennis was born. Then on August 2, 1951, her second son Raymond was born. Now the young Koster family was complete and happily living on Manitoba Avenue in Winnipeg's North End. Jean and her husband Michael travelled to Europe in the seventies which they truly enjoyed.

Jean and her family were members of St. John Cantius Roman Catholic Church, where Jean was always helping with baked goods for the church's Ladies league. The Koster family dynamic changed when Jean's husband Michael unexpectedly passed away on February 7, 1977. That did not change Jean’s resolve in continuing to be a strong independent woman and mother. Jean was also a fabulous cook. When you came to the Koster home, you always knew that there was always good food to be found and offered. Jean was always cooking or baking something for somebody. If you asked Jean what she considered to be important, she would always reply, that people should be well fed and enjoy themselves.
 

Jean kept herself busy by working for various catering companies, where she catered many weddings and parties in her time.

She belonged to St. Nicholas Catholic Church Senior's Club, and the Lutheren Church on Inkster Senior's Club, where through the clubs they went on various outings.

She also was a faithful volunteer, making perogies, at St. Ivan Suchovsky Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral.

Jean was always busy and active until she could not be anymore.

In September 2014, Jean entered the last chapter of her life, when she moved to Holy Family Home. There she enjoyed the last years of her life to the fullest. She truly enjoyed what Holy Family had to offer both spiritually and emotionally. The family would like to thank Dr. Taras Babick, Dr. Andrea Babick, the nursing staff, health care aids and housekeeping staff of St. Mary’s Unit for making her home at Holy Family an enjoyable one.

Funeral Service will be celebrated on Friday, May 31 at 10:00 a.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street with interment to follow at Holy Ghost Cemetery.
