Obituary of JOSEPH RICHARD NAWROT
JOSEPH RICHARD NAWROT
It is with great sadness that MaryAnne and Peter announce the passing of Joseph Richard Nawrot on July 11, 2019.
Joe was predeceased by his parents, Aniela and Stanislaw Nawrot.
Joe was born in the town of Zurawica, Poland. When the Second World War broke out, he and his parents were displaced to Germany. After the war the Joe and his parents boarded the General Blatford ship and sailed from Bremerhaven, Germany to Halifax. Joe and his parents were sponsored by his aunt and uncle Ledochowski who resided in Poplar Field, Manitoba. Joe attended Holy Ghost School and completed his high school education at St. Paul’s High School. He was employed by the Province of Manitoba and earned his red seal in carpentry from Red River Community College. Joe continued to be employed by the province for 41 years during which time he worked in the trades workshop, numerous government buildings and was promoted to a construction supervisor with responsibility for the Employee Housing Program. Joe’s work took him all over the province. It was during his years with the government that he was exposed to asbestos which would later result in his demise from rare and aggressive form of sarcomatoid mesothelioma.
In their 56 years together, the family travelled to Europe several times to visit Joe’s surviving family in Wroclaw and Przemysl. Joe enjoyed gardening, helping others in their building projects, and visiting with his coffee friends at Tim Horton’s. In his retirement, he worked at Home Depot where he enjoyed keeping up with and sharing his knowledge of construction with others. He took pride in an active and healthy lifestyle and enjoyed meeting new people.
The family thanks the Palliative Care team at the St. Boniface Hospital. Special thanks to Dr. John Kreml.
