Peacefully on Wednesday, March 4, 2009, Doreen passed away with her family by her side, after a long courageous battle with cancer. Doreen is survived by her devoted husband of 52 years Allister (Al); her son Richard (Kim) of Stony Mountain, MB; her daughter Cheryl (Tom) Prendergast of Winnipeg, MB and her daughter Michele Prociuk of Winnipeg, MB; grandchildren Christyn, Brenley, Andrea, Ashlee (Tim), Jessica, Brent and Carissa; great-grandchildren Russell and Lyla. She was predeceased by her parents Eugene Lear and Dorothy Kraigsley and her sister Bernice Kucyk. Doreen was born December 20, 1936 in Winnipeg, MB. She met the love of her life Al in November 1953 and married September 8, 1956. Doreen started her working career at London Life following that she spent many years at home raising her family. Doreen resumed her working career at the T. Eaton Co. in the fashion department. In 1974, she left the T. Eaton Co. and went to work at the administration department at the University of Manitoba. In 1976 she moved to the School of Nursing and worked under Dr. Helen Glass. After holding numerous positions in the School of Nursing she retired in 1998 as Administrative Assistant to the Dean of the Faculty of Nursing. Following her retirement she worked under special contract to the University assisting with the construction and design of the Helen Glass Centre for Nursing of which she was very proud. Doreen was a member of the Sphinx Temple, #116 Daughter's of the Nile and was installed as Queen on March 22, 1997. Doreen was also a member of the Khartum Ladies Auxiliary and served as President in 2005. Doreen liked to do all sorts of crafts. She made many Scrapbook Albums of which our family will treasure forever. She was an avid sewer and sewed many of her own clothes for years. In the past few years she enjoyed making jewellery and made many beautiful pieces and even taught some classes on jewellery making for her friends. One of her favourite things though was to travel. Every winter was spent in Marco Island in Florida with Al and their many wonderful friends they have come to know there. The family would like to thank all their family and friends for all of their support over the last few months, especially Marielle Calvez, Ruth McCorrie, Margaret Desrochers, Carol Hohman and Pat Visinski for their many flowers, calls and food deliveries. We would like to thank Dr. Patricia Harris and the CancerCare at the Grace Hospital and Dr. Heather Frame of the Assiniboine Clinic.
