Obituary of ERNIE GENIK

ERNIE GENIK 1938 – 2012 It is with heavy hearts that we have to announce the peaceful passing of Ernie Genik in the early morning of October 23, 2012 we lost our beloved husband, father and Gigi. Ernie is survived by his loving wife of 48 years Adele; daughter Arla (Kent); son Earle (Kim), grandchildren Jeremy, Bryce, Treena, Zachary; son Jason (Kelsey), grandchildren Ty, Brady. He also leaves to mourn brothers Mike (Terry), Len and sister-in-law Terry, brother in-law John (Vicky) Muzyka and many nieces and nephews. Ernie was predeceased by his parents Nick and Ann and two grandchildren in infancy. Ernie was born in Dauphin, Manitoba July 2, 1938. He worked in Lynn Lake and Thompson before moving to Winnipeg with his family and became a Winnipeg Transit driver. He loved driving the bus, meeting people and telling anyone who would listen to his stories of the nightshift on the #11 Kildonan. He was awarded bus driver of the year in 1992 and carried the #1 badge prior to his retirement in 2005 with 39 years of safety driving and 40 years of service with Winnipeg Transit. Ernie loved spending time with his children and grandchildren and relaxing on the deck chatting with his neighbours. The grandchildren will always have fond memories of Gigi in the backyard especially when the apples fell from the tree. He also enjoyed sitting in the den with Adele and watching cooking shows and "Everybody Loves Raymond". His great sense of humour will be missed by all who knew him. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, October 27 at 1:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street with viewing prior to service. Interment to follow in Glen Eden Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Ernie’s memory to the Children’s Wish Foundation.
